Difference Between Gorilla Tracking and Gorilla Trekking

There are two words that are used con-temporarily to mean the same thing but in actual sense there is a slight difference that we need to point out for those who are interested in visiting Mgahinga Gorilla national park, Bwindi impenetrable national park and Volcanoes national park. Gorilla tracking and gorilla trekking basically come into tragedy when one talks about mountain gorillas in the above national parks. But the difference lies between who does what.

Gorilla Trekking:

This involves a group of tourists who hike hills and beat the forest trying to follow and find a certain family of endangered mountain gorillas. The experience starts early morning at exactly 7:00am with a quick briefing at each respective park headquarters and around 8:30am you set up for the activity.

It is always done with an escort of a trained guide from the Uganda wildlife authority that will lead the groups of tourists to where the mountain gorillas will be.as the activity is taking place, the guide will be identifying other animals and birds and different species and trees in order to make the trek enjoyable. The guide will also be in touch with the gorilla trackers in order to get the information where the gorilla families could be spotted or seen at that particular time.

In spite being in the mountainous areas, the tourists have to hike at the top of the mountain to find the gorillas hence the term gorilla trekking.

Gorilla Tracking:

This is done by rangers, expert gorilla trackers and advanced team to find a given habituated mountain gorilla family with the use of many signs and techniques to trace them before gorilla trekking takes place.

For gorilla tracking, the rangers wake up very early in the morning to beat the forest in search of the mountain gorillas and once they find them, they contact the park headquarters and then gorilla trekking follows afterwards. The activity is most done in Bwindi impenetrable national park due to its first commencement in 1993 thus seizing the attention of the worldwide market for gorilla tracking.
