Detailed itinerary of your 4 days Uganda Gorilla and Chimpanzee Trekking Trip

Day 1: Transfer to Kibale Forest National Park-guided nature walk in Bigodi

Wake up early in the morning and enjoy your cup of tea or coffee at a hotel in Kampala or Entebbe. Meet your Uganda safari driver guide who will give you insight into what your 4 days Uganda gorilla and chimpanzee trekking tour is all about. After, drive via Mityana-Mubende town-Fort Portal city-Kibale Forest National Park about 5-6 hours.

Lunch stop will be made at a hotel in Fort Portal city and after, take about half hour’s drive to Kibale Forest National Park, western Uganda. En-route, enjoy the stunning tea and banana plantations. Check in at your respective lodge and in the afternoon, you will connect to Bigodi wetland for guided nature walk.

Bigodi guided nature walk is full of surprises as you stand a chance to enjoy amazing view of primates like black and white colobus monkeys, red tailed monkeys, red colobus monkeys, vervet monkeys, L’Hoest monkeys; birds especially the Great blue turaco and if you are lucky enough, you will spot the swamp sitatungas. Day 2: Chimpanzee tracking in Kibale Forest and drive to Bwindi National Park

Have breakfast early in the morning and after, report to Kanyanchu Visitor Centre where briefing on chimpanzee tracking safety measures will be conducted by park official. This always starts early at around 7:00am and at 8:00am, you will begin your search for chimpanzees which also lets you see other primates, birds and plant species.

The entire chimpanzee trek can last for 2-4 hours and it includes 1 hour of magical encounter and photography. You will then retreat from your chimpanzee trekking experience and later, check out of your lodge. After, leave Kibale Forest for Bwindi Impenetrable National Park in Southwestern Uganda.

En-route, your 4 hours’ drive trip will include sighting the tree climbing lions at Ishasha area of Queen Elizabeth National Park, lunch stop at Savanna resort and amazing view of rolling hills. Later, check in at the gorilla safari lodge in Bwindi for dinner and night stay.

Day 3: Gorilla Trekking in Bwindi & Batwa Cultural Experience

The 3rd of your 4 days Uganda gorilla and chimpanzee trekking safari will commence with an early morning breakfast and after, transfer to Bwindi park offices for briefing on gorilla trekking rules. The 7:00am briefing also includes assigning you a habituated gorilla family and park guide then at 8:00am, you will explore Bwindi Impenetrable National Park on a trek to see mountain gorillas.

You will take 2-6 hours trekking to view gorillas but this varies depending on your speed of hiking and nature of the habitat. Once you come across a gorilla family, expect to spend 1 hour of magical encounter, take photos and have an in-depth learning about how mountain gorillas behave. There are also some interesting birds, primates and unique plants to explore on gorilla trek. Retreat after long day adventure to see gorillas and relax at the lodge.

In the afternoon, you will have the best of Batwa cultural experience which involves you exploring their ancient hunting and gathering techniques, lifestyle, traditions and also enjoy their dances, music and a lot more. The Batwa pygmies lived in Bwindi Impenetrable Forest for a period of about 500000 years. Dinner and overnight stay will be at your gorilla safari lodge in Bwindi.
